Welcome to The Willamette Valley Forum

During the spring and fall of 2008, the Willamette Valley Forum is hosting a set of presentations on “US Foreign Policy, with Particular Emphasis on the Middle East and Asia.” We draw heavily, although not exclusively, on the expertise that exists in the Willamette Valley. The objective of the series is to provide background information that helps understand current events and public policy decision-making. The series is designed to be attractive to interested citizens, including students, and there will be opportunity for interaction between audience members and speakers. Attendance is free and open to the public.

Most, but not all, of the speakers are associated with local colleges and universities. Bibliographic information on those who have agreed to join us to date can be found on the menu under "Speakers". This site is updated frequently and will include materials provided by speakers, as they add background and follow-up references on the topics of the various presentations. Names of additional speakers will appear as they agree to join us.

This spring’s presentations are listed below. We are optimistic that two more speakers will join us. For the fall, planned topics include "The Role of the Military in US Foreign Policy", "Politics and the Media", "US Foreign Policy and the Middle East", and "US Foreign Policy and the 2008 Elections".
